A new benchmark in off-road performance

Fox Factory is recognized as a benchmark-setter for high-performance shock absorption systems. They recently released a Fox-tuned GM Silverado “Super Truck” to deliver the pinnacle of off-roading performance. Along with a supercharged V8 with 700hp of grunt and bespoke 37-inch tyres, it included, as you’d expect, an impressive suspension setup.

The exclusive Baja Kits long travel front suspension is married to the FOX 3.2 Factory Race Series Live Valve shocks and 2.0 IFP bump stops capable of 14.5” of usable travel.

But the real excitement is a highly sophisticated software ecosystem that manages this incredible setup:

These FOX Live Valve semiactive shocks are controlled through a dash-mounted touchpoint that can be customized via a mobile app to control terrain modes, monitor suspension telemetry, record ride data, and more.

To ensure the most seamless and reliable connection between the in-cab controls and the Live Valve units, Fox reached out to Virscient.  Having previously engaged with Virscient’s embedded engineering services, FOX asked Virscient to lead the integration of the advanced software and suspension system.

From fuzzy idea to detailed project documentation and delivery

To ensure the most seamless and reliable connection between the in-cab controls and the Live Valve units, Fox knew they’d need a unique solution.   Having previously engaged with Virscient’s embedded engineering services, Fox asked Virscient to lead the integration of the suspension, vehicle dynamics, software and wireless connectivity.

At the beginning of the project, Fox Factory’s vision was expansive and ambitious.  Virscient were engaged at a strategic level, and were then able to bring on experts in specific areas to document and design the respective elements of the ecosystem.

The ability to connect the FOX 3.2 Factory Race Series Live Valve shocks to a seamlessly integrated software ecosystem is the core of the innovation. Virscient’s role extended beyond embedded wireless connectivity services and into the development of the initial prototype and development of the mobile app.

As strategic partner for the software ecosystem

Virscient’s expertise enables a seamless flow of data between the vehicle’s electronic control unit (ECU), the LiveValve shocks and the mobile app.

A Nordic nRF52833 advanced Bluetooth® multiprotocol system on a chip (SoC) transmits updates to the consumer’s phone at 400 Hz. This means instructional feeds and feedback telemetry are transmitted effortlessly. This capability empowers the driver with real-time insights and provides FOX with valuable data for continuous improvement.

Given our success in collaborating with Virscient on an earlier project, we were confident to engage them for support on this project. Owen, Richard and their team have been vital to the integration of embedded wireless connectivity into FOX’s latest products.
